Standing in the huddle listening to the call
Fans going crazy for the boys of fall."
For more than a year, high school has not been the same. Students are attending school remotely or on a hybrid basis, not in “real” contact with friends, and not attending sporting events. In the scheme of things, the school attendance and the missing of friends is much more important than sports, but no matter how you see it, there is something missing. Since I am well beyond high school, I miss the sports.
This past week we learned there will be a spring football season at our local high school. I know this seems like something you would have heard about when the World Football League was around, but things have changed. Besides having missed football, I have missed the energy of being at something I truly enjoy. My trusty Nikon has too.
A few things will likely be quite different. I am sure the number of people in the stands will be smaller—if at all due to social distancing—and the band will probably not be able to have their instruments as the weather will likely not be conducive to playing them..and their lips will likely stick to the metal.
But football will be back and I am very happy. I am really hoping they allow photographers on the field—I will wear a mask or whatever is required—-because I know it will be sloppy and that makes for incredible memories. In the spring and late winter, we get some crazy weather and that will create a real “Tide” moment. I have had the good fortune to photograph in bad weather, wow!
So, as we move into spring, and we get ready for the team to step back on the turf, I really hope the players are as excited as I am, because….I have truly missed football!
The photo above was taken at a “mud game.” The field was not happy, and most likely whomever was in charge of the uniforms was not either, but there was one photographer who was in his glory and he will hopefully be there in the spring.
Thanks for stopping by.
