Make it stop!

“Remember when old ones died and new were born

And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged

We came together, fell apart

And broke each other's hearts

Remember when.”

For those who have lived under a rock for nearly a year, the world has changed. I mean it’s changed…big time.

It’s somewhat fitting tomorrow is “Groundhog Day” and whereas we normally hope he sees his shadow, or doesn’t, I don’t recall which one is which, an early spring is always the hopeful result. However, there is another “Groundhog Day” that is more applicable; it stars Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott—- but that’s not the important part. In the movie, Bill Murray lives the same day over and over again. Starting with the 6AM alarm, Sonny and Cher’s “I’ve Got You Babe,” running into Ned Ryerson, and more.

If you thought it was a funny movie, how much have you enjoyed living this life for almost 11 months? I don’t know about you, but I am ready to wake up from this crazy dream—which is not a dream at all, it’s a nightmare.

This afternoon we went to Costco, something we do almost every week; we walk in, most of the same people are working their shifts, we walk by the samplers who are no longer sampling—they have a sample of the dish behind glass—we check out, get our receipt examined and head back to the car. This might sound like the worst outing to take, but it does break up the monotony of one day leading into the next.

I know we are all hopeful of what will be on the other side of the pandemic, I just really hope it happens before summer. Having missed spring, summer and fall this past year (winter doesn’t count) it will be nice to take off the face mask, not social distance, and get back to living—-I know it’s out there, I really do.

The photo above was taken several years ago when the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup. High over head, I hung out of a window—-I was being held by my legs—and saw the mass of people celebrating below. There were no masks or social distancing—there was only hope of repeating it again the next year.

Thanks for stopping by.
