Hit the road.

“Get your motor runnin'

Head out on the highway

Looking for adventure

In whatever comes our way.”

If you have travelled around the United States this year, you are not part of the majority. This has been a year that anyone in the travel business wants to forget, as well as any business that is affiliated with it—hopefully we will walk through the our doors and see a new and different place.

For a number of years I worked with travel accounts in the advertising industry; to say they understand hospitality and welcomeness, would be an understatement…this is not just their career, it’s their passion. When I would attend travel conferences, I learned so much about what goes on behind the scenes in travel. It’s not a simple as a hotel, theme park, and food—it’s the preparation and coordination with many “players” working together to insure a positive experience. Remember, word of mouth can get them there, it can also get them to never come back.

This past year I travelled. Sure I was well aware of what was going on out there, both visible and invisible, and I was hopeful I would be safe. It was a risk and it may have not been the smartest one, but I was able to see America in its glory. I went to Florida twice, and whereas this would not be something the state would emphasize in their advertising, they have some of “THE BEST” clouds I have ever seen. These were not the wispy clouds, they had a “meaning”—-in other words, they “meant” a storm was coming. As a cloud lover I could not be happier to have witnessed them.

When I call it a day in the business world, I have told a few people my plans to travel around the U.S. and photograph it. Not just trees, buildings and flowers…I want to experience what America has to offer. I want to go to Wyoming and Montana during the winter (just for a few days) and photograph buffalo in the snow, Highway 1 in California, Cape Cod, and so much more. When I return to wherever we are living, I am going sit back and just re-live it. I can’t wait. Actually I can wait because I have a lot in front of me before it happens.

We will be back traveling again; I am optimistic it will be sooner than we think, but we will have to be aware of the need to be careful and also kind to those who are hosting us once more—-they have been through total hell.

The photo above was taken in Maine a number of years ago. We were at a restaurant and I saw this wall of license plates; yes I had been to many of them, but seeing them placed on a wall reminded me how much I enjoy travel and seeing America. Let’s hit the road as soon as we can.

Thanks for stopping by.
