There's a new(er) wine in town.

“There's a hole in the bottle

Leakin' all this wine

It's already empty and it ain't even suppertime

Honey, no, I don't miss him

In fact, it slipped my mind

There's a hole in the bottle of wine.”

When it comes to a good glass of wine, I always pass. It all stems from one night in  college when I drank way more than I should have and it left me in pain for a few days. So, I showed that bottle of wine who was boss and switched to scotch. Yeah, I sure gave it a piece of my mind—-the same mind that was hurting from its contents.

If you have ever been to the wine country or to an area where wine is produced and grapes are grown—you know this is a very serious business. A few years ago, we had a gathering of some of our fraternity brothers (yeah, that same fraternity I referred to earlier this week) and we went to a winery; I am always amazed about the uniformity of the plants, the clusters of grapes, and how many bottles come from a winery and I stop there.

This past year our family went to another wine area; this time in Fredericksburg, TX. Yes, you read that right…it’s in Texas and there are more than 50 wineries in the area. When we were there we spoke with one of the owners of a winery and he was quite open about how he decided to get into the business, and the future as he sees it. Let me just say, John Hollimon and his family are very committed to the success of the winery—and since he is going to “will it to them,” I would too!

The one thing I have learned about wine lovers—they truly are wine lovers!

Last week I went to Trader Joe’s and there was a bottle of wine for sale that really caught me eye. It was easily 2 feet tall, a beautiful blue, and of course filled with wine. What variety? I have no idea, but I almost bought it just because it was cool. In fact, if it’s still there when I go back, I “might” buy a bottle—-if not, I will take a picture! Surprised? Didn’t think so.

The photo above was taken recently. Now, I have to say, if Snoop Dogg had a winery, and he were there to greet guests, I probably still wouldn’t go, but I would be very impressed that he was doing it. But, Snoop, you will be happy because for our holiday dinner, you joined us in spirit and were present “on” the table; when dinner was over, only your bottle remained and of course a glass of “gin and juice!”

Thanks for stopping by.
