Hitting the stage.

“She was aware of her insecurities as she took the stage

She was convinced if she got up there

That she'd be discovered someday

So she belted it, she hit the high notes fearlessly

Oh she melted them, as she brought them to their feet.”

It doesn’t matter if you are a female or male singer, it takes a lot of work, heartache and luck to make it big….or at all. How do I know? I can only assume as I have a really bad voice.

I cannot say for sure, but sometime in our life, I have to believe we have dreamed of doing something that was outside of “our circle of likely.” I know I wanted to be an NHL goalie when I was much younger…looking back on that, “What was I thinking?” I have about as much of a chance of that happening as my being a professional bowler! (Believe it or not, my parents and my brother were really good bowler…not so much for my sister and me.)

Over the years I have photographed school events; whether it was a talent show, a play or some other event, I always found the talent some people possess as amazing. To have the ability to act, sing, and dance…I know it takes a lot of practice, but I have to believe some of it was just a gift they earned through the “gene pool of life.” If not, I missed out.

Although I am sure anyone reading today’s “Snap. Shot.” will roll their eyes, but “American Idol” has proven there is some serious talent hiding out all over the US. When I watch the show, and “Yes” I do watch it, I will often think, “they’re from where?” These are young men and women who would likely never have had any chance had they not had the exposure through national media—how cool is that?

One thing I do miss, and have not been to in a year or so, are live concerts. Typically we go to a local venue in our community, but we have also been to out-of-town locations such as Red Rock in Colorado, and even Detroit where we saw one of our daughters perform with a band she was playing with. I have pictures to prove it!

The photo above was taken at Ravinia in Highland Park, IL. I have liked Jackson Browne’s music for many years—and when you have good seats, and an iPhone camera, you can take home a memory in both your head and on your phone—-I have both!

Thanks for stopping by.
