Dreamin'

"Up all night and we were feelin' so good
Yeah, we got a little higher than we probably should
We were in a hotel singin' in the hallway lights
We were strikin' the matches right down to the ashes
Setting the world on fire, setting the world on fire."

We all have dreams. Most happen during the nighttime hours when we are fast asleep, and other's when we are wide awake wondering where the next part of our lives will take us? If you don't day dream, you are missing out on an important part of life. The ability to creatively look at the future, whether it happens or not, is what takes you from "status quo to whoa!"

Over the past few weeks I have been out and about and have seen many dreams happening right before me—- at times not even realizing it. A few weeks ago, my daughters were in a dance performance and the aspirations of many of the young girls (and a few boys) were obvious. You could see the dreamers and those that were there because either friends or parents made them do it. For those who were really interested in dance, you could see it in their eyes, steps and constant motion doing what they love.

Prior to the dance performance, I was at a girls basketball game. Held in a huge gym, there must have been 15 games going on all at the same time; I still don't know how they knew whether or not a whistle being blown was for their game or the one in the next court. It was obvious that talent was present on the court—the focus and desire to be a part of the game, and wishful looks of "put me in coach" made for great emotional photography. (If you were there, I was the guy with a Nikon camera lying down on the floor.)

But not all dreams are good ones. We know them, they're the lost hopes, AKA  "Why not me's?" and the hurtful, "Why couldn't I be a part of it?" All I can say is, just wait. It will be your turn one day, and when it is... make sure you live it to maximum potential. I also think it says a lot about the person who, when the incredible is happening, doesn't forget about the ones who are where they were when things weren't going our way. You'll be much better and stronger because of it. Sounds obvious right? Watch next time for those who are at the top, and then those who have come up short. (You'll know the look because we have all seen it staring back at us in the mirror— at least a 100 times.)

The photo above was taken at a football game over a year ago. It was the game that determined who went to the state championship and who went home. You'll know who was going and who wasn't.

When you're looking to "set the world on fire," it's always smart to keep in perspective everything that can happen, because we all know it's easy to get burned.

Thanks for stopping by.
