“Crazy
I'm crazy for feeling so lonely
I'm crazy
Crazy for feeling so blue
I knew
You'd love me as long as you wanted
And then some day
You'd leave me for somebody new.”
I am sure there are many words or phrases to sum up this year, but “Crazy” sounds most appropriate.
When I knew 2020 was upon us, I imagined the fun we could have with the year—-such as having a clear vision, keeping everything in sight, and more. But now that we are on its last legs, “hindsight truly is 2020.” The last week of this year, when they traditionally review all that has happened on news shows, it will be one of the most depressing segments I hope I ever have to experience.
When I look back on how the year started, I should have known; we had Prince Harry and Megan quitting the Royal Family, the loss of Kobe, his daughter and all those on board the ill-fated flight, the murder hornets, and the cancellation of most sports. (Was there anything else?)
Thankfully we are 23 days away from the turning of one year over to the next. I’m sure this is not the first time we’ve looked forward to seeing a change in numerals, but I doubt there has ever been a time when hundreds of millions have felt this way. It’s been a doozy of a year.
So what’s next?
I am going to be optimistic the adding of one number to the end of 2020 will allow us to move on to better times. The belief that a vaccine is going to take us out of this nightmare cannot come soon enough; I want to remove the mask, I want be able to be with friends, and I want to photograph sports again. I really miss life. I am not alone.
Yes, this has been a crazy year and I am confident no matter how hard we try, we will be worried whenever we hear there is a virus out there. Similar to what we experienced after 9/11—-when we heard of airplanes flying in an erratic manner—-or something out of the ordinary that brings up memories of days gone by, I hope we never forget. This is one lesson we had better have learned.
The photo above was taken in Glen Ellyn, IL where I live. The “Glen” movie theater has been around for nearly 100 years. It supposedly has a bowling alley in the basement and most likely stories we will never know—-but the sign on it’s marquee says it all…”We’ll Be Back!”
Thanks for stopping by.
