You can meet me on ehairmony.com

I am not sure if you were watching TV this past weekend, but if you were, you may have seen a commercial for eharmony.com. The focus was that for the entire weekend you could have "free connections." I am not sure what this means, but I suspect that you normally would have to pay for these "connections" but since the summer was over, and the fall was here, perhaps it was eharmony's way of saying, "Don't give up hope."

I have never used an online dating service--nor do I plan to--- but I do know people who have and well...they've worked. I find this kind of amazing but then again in today's fast paced, crazed world why not? I also found it to be interesting as I was looking at job opportunities on LinkedIn last night that there was a job opening---Client Sales Director: Matchmaking Firm. You might laugh, but the salary was $85,000 + bonus. Our world has really changed since Jewish mothers were responsible for the matchmaking responsibilities. (They certainly were not paid that!)

This really became a reality a few months ago when my wife and I were photographing a Bar Mitzvah for a friend of mine. (Not a bad place to find a Jewish matchmaker---even though weddings are much better.) We were taking portrait pictures of kids, families, grandparents when a woman came up to me and said, "I would like you to take my picture, I am going to join an online dating service." Talk about pressure. I mean, if it looks bad it's my fault. If it looks great---and her date says, "this is you???"--- it's all my fault again. (I.E. No win.) My first response was one that thankfully did not make it beyond my lips. It was, "You have got to be kidding?" But since she was serious I took 3 pictures and said, hope it works for you. Vegas was not putting any odds out on this one. I have not heard if she has joined the dating service, but would be curious to know if my photo got her a date. It would be a good win for the photographer!

What I love about the picture above is the ape's look; most monkeys, apes, or other primates really don't like humans. Or they don't appear to. I have taken countless photos of monkeys and apes, and just like little children, their eyes dart around, they won't sit still, or are just a pain in the you know what. But this ape was different. He just sat there and looked at me. Almost like he was saying "You think you are any better looking than me?" Let's see who gets the golden ring, baby. When I took it I knew it looked good in the 1.5" v 1.5" screen. But you never know until you see it on the computer screen. I was really pleased with the outcome, I hope Harry is too. (Actually there is a contest at the zoo for best photos and I am thinking its time to give this primate the spotlight.)

If you know of someone who is looking on line to find the love of their lives I really hope it works for them and I am available to do the photography. For Harry and the rest of the ehairmony.com crowd, I think they are forever trapped at the zoo.

Welcome to fall...and thanks for stopping by.
